Ryan Mayo is a British military thriller author and former soldier whose writing is shaped by service, memory, brotherhood, and the lasting cost of war.
Ryan joined the British Army in 1990 at the age of sixteen, beginning his military career as a junior soldier. He went on to serve with 16 Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery, before transferring to 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery. After completing P Company, he earned his place as an airborne soldier, serving with pride until his Army career came to an end in 1996.
After leaving the forces, Ryan spent more than twenty years working in the pub, restaurant, and licensed trade, including time as a pub landlord and manager. Those years gave him a deep understanding of people, leadership, pressure, humour, hardship, and the quiet battles many carry beneath the surface.
Over the last eight years, Ryan has worked in public transport, continuing to serve the public in a different way. Since 2024, he has channelled his military background, life experience, and passion for storytelling into writing gritty British military thrillers.
His novels are inspired by his own past as a British soldier, stories shared by fellow veterans, and his years as an Army Cadet Force instructor. Through the Faultlines of War series, Ryan explores courage, loyalty, trauma, sacrifice, family, and the emotional scars that can follow long after the shooting stops.
His writing is authentic, emotional, and grounded in the lived experiences of those who served. These are not just war stories. They are stories about the people behind the uniform.
